I’m a big fan of hand printed things, and have practiced the art of printmaking for my entire adult life.

I’m also a fan of following your passion; and living for family and friends and not just for work. I love traveling because it shows me other perspectives and other worlds, and that inevitably teaches me something about the world I occupy day to day. I want to fill my life with creative pursuits, and to always continue the evolution of myself and my work.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – Foundations Department
Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO
2014 – Present

In Foundations at KCAI, we approach the education model from a Bauhaus perspective.  The entire Freshman year is departmental/instructor led, and individual workshops in various disciplines where students choose their emphasis.  My specialty is offering courses in printmaking, graphic design, typography, and digital processes.  It’s the most inspiring and challenging teaching opportunity I have ever had.  KCAI offers the most latitude ever given to me as a teacher, so the results of these classes are truly unique and wonderful.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – Printmaking Department
Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO
2011 – 2015

At KCAI in printmaking we have a diverse and technically well equipped studio.  We have every type of printing press available and many in-studio tools like laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC machines.  Working in such an advanced setting allows or many mixed-media approaches to teaching print.  Over time I taught screen print, letterpress, book binding, alternative process, intaglio, relief and more.

CONTINUING EDUCATION FACULTY
CPS Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO
2011 – 2015

For many years I was the lead printmaking instructor for adults and continuing education courses.  We covered many topics like collograph, intaglio, relief, and alternative processes.  These courses were for all ages and all levels, so I worked with a broad based of students.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR
New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM
2005 – 2009

I was fortunate to attend a graduate program where I taught for all three years as a student and one year post-graduate.  My main role was running the printmaking department where I grew the program from 1 class of all levels to 4 sections of various levels of skill.  It was a tremendous experience, and I unfortunately could not stay on after 4 years teaching printmaking, drawing, bookmaking, and foundations.

PRINTMAKING INSTRUCTOR
Belvoir Terrace, Lenox, MA
Summers 2008 – 2009

For two summers I was the printmaking instructor and resident at an all girls summer camp.  I taught printmaking to girls ages 10-18.  We did every main technical method, and I adapted my approach based on age level courses.  When we weren’t teaching, the studios were ours to make our own personal work for the summer.

OTHER JOB EXPERIENCE

BREAD BAKER
Farm to Market Bread Co., Kansas City, MO
2012-2013

For a short time I was the manager of our Kansas City Artist and Craftsman art store.  We carried the largest inventory of art supplies in the region.  As manager I handled staffing, scheduling, inter-corporate communications with store managers and executives in the company, inventory, store layout and more.  The best part of working at a resource like A&C is getting to know extensive detail about materials and processes.

CREATIVE CONSULTANT
McGregor Marquette Center for the Arts
2010

My role with the MMCA was to devise a business plan and strategy for a newly started small-town art center.  I provided a plan for growth, 50+ grant opportunities from federal to state and local level, and outlines on how to advertise shows and bring more artists on board.  The position was grant funded and ran for 6 months.
