Naughton’s art spans a wide array of subject matter and media. If one were to sum up his creative output, it would be accurate to state that he possesses an instatiable inquisitive mind, and that he has a penchant for acquiring techniques which often steers his interests away from making fine art into making many types of things for many purposes. Still, he always comes back to center and the age old practice of making objects that elicit complex interpretations. He’s also interested in how art can be seen different over time and in different contexts. At times Naughton’s work can be political, while he also enjoys venturing into abstraction from time to time. Most often he makes work about what he is immediately exposed to, and his process hones a technical approach that makes sense with a given idea.
